Party poppers, balloons and a live video broadcast were at the ready as everyone began the countdown to launch Workplace! There was a huge cheer as the number zero from the countdown was reached and at a click of a button, all Workplace invitations were sent Apax wide enabling everyone to log on for the first time!
Leading up to the official launch, there were numerous ‘ambassador meetings’ where residents and staff who were championing this event planned the launch which included a spectrum of activities from a dynamic presentation introducing Workplace to making a customized key ring from pictures taken from a photo booth to bespoke balloons spray painted with the Workplace logo to exciting gift bags with homemade cookies, techie gadgets, stickers, creative information flyers.
Workplace by Facebook is an exciting and easy to use communication platform that will help all of Apax residents and employees to instantly connect with each other, organise events, collaborate together and turn ideas into action. It will give everyone at Apax a voice, from residents to staff to the newest people who join creating a more dynamic, fluid and flat organisation. The workplace will bring communication among residents and employees into one place and has many useful features such as Work Chat.
The community building aspect of Workplace is also a distinct positive feature as members can join Apax resident Interest Groups such as Hearing Voices Group, Interfaith Group, Achieving My Tenancy, Floating Support Services etc. to surround themselves with like-minded people, share their thoughts, creative content, express their interests and passions and enhance co-production team collaboration. The possibility to coordinate and plan social events further enhances real world interactions and will hopefully assist residents to build on their social skills which in turn further encourages social interaction.
Social media has become a space in which we form and build relationships, shape self-identity, to express ourselves, and learn about the world around us. With its almost universal reach and unprecedented ability to connect people from all walks of life, social media, if used in moderation, holds the potential to wield a mighty power as a positive catalyst for developing independent living skills such as the use of technology or develop on interpersonal skills and relationships. Equally the use of social media has become an integral part of people’s lives and as such Apax recognised the necessity of nurturing the innovation that holds the future through the introduction of Workplace.
The purpose of Workplace is to create a sense of community in the digital universe, to cultivate unity in diversity, social integration and social cohesion through empowering residents with the knowledge, relevant skills and tools to navigate this particular social platform online in a way that protects and promotes their life skills.
