Here at Apax we’re pleased to announce the launch of Crescent House, our first ‘model independent living accommodation’. Consisting of two separate self-contained units, with their own bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom, Crescent House helps provide tenants with a stable foundation for our residents to continue their journey towards eventual full independency and self-reliance. We are delighted that our 3 Step Support Pathway has proved to be an essential tool to facilitate the move-on of two residents from our medium support accommodation, Summer House, to low support at Crescent House. Both residents will still have the reassurance and peace of mind of knowing that floating support will still be provided until the time they are ready to finish their journey towards complete independent living.
Speaking of this move, Grace said:
“Crescent House is more independent as I have my own front door. There’s more space and it’s more relaxed. I find the environment frees my mind from thinking about what other people are doing. I feel I can focus on myself and feel like I have finally moved on. It’s a nice feeling! I feel as though I have moved on from my past. I like the fact that I am in the community away from the mental health accommodations. It’s good to move locations as you get to know a different areas. I really like the area I live in now!”
John, the second resident, commented:
“I find Crescent House more homely and peaceful compared to my previous accommodation. I feel like I own the place rather than I am staying at a hotel. It also feels more secure as well. I feel more like an adult living in Crescent, because there are no support workers monitoring me 24/7. I like the idea of not being stuck in one bedsit. I especially like the idea of not having to walk past other tenants to reach my door and feel I have a lot more privacy at Crescent House. I feel much happier and more comfortable here!”
We look forward to expanding our provision of low support ‘self-styled independent accommodations’ to be able to offer the same service to any resident who is ready to take that step. We’re delighted that residents like Grace and John are benefiting from these developments and we will continue to support them with encouragement, empowerment and enablement using a person centred approach until the time they are ready to take full ownership to take control over their lives.
